Since the womb I’ve been obsessed with music and obsessed with list making. I probably started my first list of favorite musicians at the discovery of Elton John and pop music at around 10 years old. That list included artists such as War, Three Dog Night, Jim Croce – my first three 45’s I purchased. Over the years that list has obviously been modified and has grown, and like the borg, has taken on a life of its own. At 11, Kiss topped the list; at 12, Led Zeppelin, and so on and so forth.
Since I have so many music loving friends, who enjoy debating the merits of say, Bonnie Prince Billie, or who could actually seriously argue should be ranked higher, Wu-Tang Clan or Jethro Tull, I decided to post my top 400 list for open debate and comment (although, since it’s my list, at the end of the day, I am always right). I also hope the comments will remind me of artists I forgot to add as well as introduce me to new artists (as if ). The list is for pop musicians; I have a separate list for jazz and classical (of course).
This list is a breathing, changing, snapshot of the moment and never set in stone.
So, without further ado, go check out the list!
Love, Ben
